Vivo X200 Ultra Features V3+ and new VS1 PreISP chip; Image Sample compared to iPhone 16 Pro Max

Vivo is set to redefine smartphone photography with the upcoming X200 Ultra, scheduled for release in April 2025. Recent updates from a company executive indicate that this flagship model will feature not just one, but two specialized imaging chips—the vivo V3+ and the innovative VS1—aimed at elevating photo quality to that of professional SLR cameras. Additionally, it will include a revamped triple flash system.

The VS1 is a “pre-processing chip”

The camera configuration of the X200 Ultra is based on an intelligent division of tasks. The VS1 chip serves as a “pre-processing chip” or “PreISP,” responsible for initial processing functions such as exposure, focus, and image stacking. This chip is also designed to enhance the overall reliability of the camera system, an area where iPhones have received much acclaim. It’s encouraging to see Vivo fully committed to enhancing the consistency and dependability of the X200 Ultra’s imaging capabilities.

The VS1 chip works in tandem with the V3+ post-processing chip, which manages more intensive tasks like noise reduction and detail enhancement. This dual-chip strategy, combined with the capable ISP of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, promises significantly improved image processing—essential for a device that aims to compete with standalone cameras.

Although the concept of “PreISP” technology isn’t entirely new (similar to Google’s Tensor chips or Apple’s Deep Fusion), Vivo’s unique implementation could distinguish it, particularly with the VS1’s algorithms trained on thousands of SLR images for precise lighting accuracy.

Another impressive aspect of this Ultra phone is its triple flash system, known as Zoom Flash, which effectively illuminates the entire field of view and ensures proper exposure to the subject. This level of performance is unattainable with a single LED flash typically found in smartphone cameras.

The company executive also presented low-light image samples captured with the vivo X200 Ultra, Canon 5D Mk IV, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Not only is the sample from the vivo X200 Ultra brighter than that of the latest iPhone, but a detailed look shows it also captures significantly more detail in the subject.
