WhatsApp Gets a List of New Features Across the Board

WhatsApp has rolled out a range of new updates designed to enhance functionality and improve user experience in chats, calls, and channels. Among the new features are real-time indicators for group chats, improved video call quality, advanced tools for channels, and specific enhancements for iPhone users, including a built-in document scanner and app integration.

WhatsApp Chat Updates

One notable update is the addition of a real-time “Online” indicator in group chats, which displays the number of active members below the group name, fostering greater visibility and interaction. Users can also personalize their notification preferences with the new “Notify for” option, allowing them to receive alerts for “All” messages or just for @mentions, replies, and messages from saved contacts.

Moreover, WhatsApp has extended its event feature to individual conversations, enabling users to RSVP as “maybe,” invite additional guests, set end times for events, and highlight important details. Another fun addition is tappable reactions, which let users quickly respond to messages using existing emoji reactions.

Connection Updates for Better Calling

The platform has also enhanced video calling with a more dependable connection system. The updated routing technology identifies the optimal connection path, minimizing freezing and dropped calls. Additionally, WhatsApp has improved bandwidth detection to enable HD video quality when the internet connection permits.

iPhone users can take advantage of a new pinch-to-zoom feature during video calls for a more adaptable viewing experience. Adding participants to ongoing calls has also been simplified, allowing users to invite them directly from chat threads.

New Channel Tools

WhatsApp Channels now offer admins improved tools for creating content and engaging with their audience. Admins can record and share brief video messages lasting up to 60 seconds. Additionally, voice message transcripts are provided, enabling users to read updates when they are unable to listen to voice notes. To enhance channel visibility and growth, admins can create unique QR codes for their channels, simplifying the process for new subscribers to join.

iPhone-Specific Improvements

iPhone users will enjoy several updates tailored to their devices. A new built-in document scanner is available in the attachment menu under “Scan Document,” allowing users to scan, crop, and send documents directly from the app.

Moreover, iPhone users can set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling app by going to Settings > Default Apps.

Be sure to keep your WhatsApp updated to access these features as soon as they become available.
