WhatsApp Web is Finally Adding Voice and Video Calling

WhatsApp’s web version might soon get built-in voice and video calls, WABetaInfo reports. So far, users could only make calls on the mobile or desktop apps. The web version was left out. Now, signs show this may change soon.

WABetaInfo spotted new call buttons appearing on the web client. This suggests users could start calls directly from their browsers. WhatsApp last added a call menu for individual and group chats for beta testers. This made starting calls easier. Now, it seems WhatsApp is moving to bring these calling options to the website.

A screenshot shared by the site shows a WhatsApp group chat on a browser. The familiar camera and phone icons are now visible at the top. These icons were missing from the web before but have been part of the mobile app for a while.

Once WhatsApp launches this feature, users could make voice and video calls without needing to install more apps. It could make WhatsApp much more useful, like services such as Microsoft Teams, which already support calls and meetings on browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Safari.

No official launch date is set yet. But, given the signs of active development, it seems likely that web calling on WhatsApp will arrive soon.
