WhatsApp is adding a new feature in its latest Android beta update that creates AI-powered chat wallpapers using Meta AI. Currently, it’s only available to a few beta testers running version 2.25.19.11, but wider testing is planned soon.
How the Feature Works
You can find the new wallpaper option in the chat theme settings, where there’s now a way to generate personalized wallpapers with the help of AI. Users can choose to apply these wallpapers across all chats or assign different ones for individual conversations.
Inside the wallpaper menu, users will see a selection of AI-generated wallpapers. These serve as examples to show what the feature can do and give a starting point for users to choose from.
For more control, users can enter custom text prompts. Meta AI then creates wallpapers based on these descriptions. Once generated, users can review, tweak, or regenerate images with new prompts.

This update makes it easier for WhatsApp users to make new wallpapers anytime, instead of relying on media files or default options. WhatsApp is also working on adding more themes to its collection.
The feature is rolling out gradually to beta testers now. Not everyone will see it immediately, and some early testers may also receive access in the coming weeks.
There is no official word yet on when the feature will be available in the stable version of WhatsApp.
