WhatsApp is working on a new AI-powered feature called Writing Help. It is designed to assist users in improving their messages while keeping their privacy safe. The feature is currently being tested on iOS through the TestFlight program, with version 25.18.10.79. It will allow users to improve messages in real time as they type.
The Writing Help tool will appear right on the message screen. It will suggest ways to make messages clearer, change the tone, or rephrase parts of the text. WhatsApp is building this feature with a secure system called Private Processing. This setup makes sure messages are never stored or linked to anyone’s identity. All the work happens in a secure, privacy-focused environment, so user data stays protected during improvements.

This feature will give users a choice of tones to suit different situations, like professional messages for work, more playful edits for friends, or supportive language for empathetic chats. WhatsApp plans to add more options over time, giving users a wider range of choices.
When a user picks a suggestion, the original message is swapped with the AI-enhanced version. The recipient will not know that AI was used to improve the message.
WhatsApp emphasizes that Writing Help is optional. Users can turn it on or off in the app settings. They can also ignore suggestions even if the feature is active. The tool only analyzes the message being typed and does not access previous chats or conversations.
Any feedback on the suggestions is also kept private. Users can provide anonymous ratings to help improve the feature. They do not need to share their messages or details with Meta or WhatsApp, protecting their privacy at all times.
