Xiaomi Confirms Major Camera Upgrades for 17 Ultra

Xiaomi has shared additional details about its upcoming 17 Ultra flagship ahead of its expected launch next week. The company focused on camera technology, announcing significant hardware upgrades and a deeper partnership with Leica.

From a joint research and development arrangement to a “co-creation model,” Xiaomi confirmed that it has extended its strategic partnership with Leica. According to the company, this shift means closer collaboration between the two firms across both hardware and software development.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be the first product to be released under this new framework for co-creation. According to Xiaomi, this deeper level of collaborative development will also be beneficial to future devices.

The 17 Ultra will introduce a “new generation of optical system solutions,” Xiaomi stated in a Weibo post. The company highlighted the telephoto camera as a major focus.

The phone will have the industry’s first Leica Apochromatic (APO) certified telephoto lens, Xiaomi confirmed. APO lenses are made to reduce chromatic aberration and improve color accuracy, especially in scenes with high contrast and challenging lighting.

Xiaomi claims that users can anticipate significant enhancements in low-light photography and enhanced detail retention in scenes with high contrast.
