Everyone thought 2025 would bring ultra-slim phones. In some ways, it has. Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge as its entry. Apple came next with the iPhone Air in September.
The trend looks short-lived for these brands, though. Reports show weak demand for their thin models. Samsung plans to end the Edge series after this one launch. The slim phone push continues elsewhere. Tipster Digital Chat Station shared on Weibo that two top Chinese makers are testing light and thin designs. Xiaomi may join them.
Another leak from Smart Pikachu suggests Xiaomi is developing a slim Xiaomi 17 Air.

Details include a 6.6-inch 1.5K screen and a 200MP main camera. That’s better than the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It would use only eSIM, skipping the physical tray. Space counts in thin phones.
Xiaomi’s slim phone could work better than the iPhone Air or Galaxy S25 Edge. Chinese companies use silicon-carbon batteries. They fit bigger power in tight spots. Results show up now.
Take the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It packs a 7,500mAh battery in an 8mm body. A 6mm Air model might get close to 5,000mAh. The Xiaomi 17 Air remains unconfirmed. We’ll update you with fresh info.
