Xiaomi is bringing Leica-Inspired Shutter Sounds to Older Models

Xiaomi is broadening its Leica-inspired photography features beyond the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. On Weibo, Xiaomi Camera Division product manager Bao confirmed that the “Refreshed Minimalist Camera” app, introduced with the 15 Ultra and SU7 Ultra in February, will soon reach many Xiaomi and Redmi phones. Over the next two months, more models will get this update.

A small but notable change is the addition of new shutter sounds based on classic Leica cameras. These sounds are designed to match specific Leica models, and user data from the Xiaomi 15 Ultra shows which ones are favorites. The “Mechanical” sound, inspired by the Leica M6, features a motor rewind effect if the shutter is held for more than 0.4 seconds. It’s meant to bring back the tactile feel of a traditional rangefinder camera. This option is the most popular so far, with an 18.8% usage rate.

The “Classic” mode draws from the Leica M9 digital camera, taking 16% of users’ votes. The default M3-inspired sound has 15%, and the “Modern” sound, based on the Leica M10, is used by 14%. These aren’t just for looks. They make each photo feel more thoughtful and cinematic, changing how users experience taking pictures on their phones.

The update will arrive in two stages. From May to mid-June, it will reach the Xiaomi 15 and 14 series, Mix Fold 4, Mix Flip, Redmi K80 and K70 series, Redmi Note 14 phones, and Turbo 4. The second phase, from mid-June to late July, will include older models such as Xiaomi 13 and 12S, Mix Fold 3, Civi 4 Pro, K60, Note 13, and Turbo 3 devices.

Xiaomi also responded to screen problems on the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. They confirmed some issues with HyperOS are still being looked into across different phones. Meanwhile, the company is now crowdfunding a new car vacuum cleaner in China.
