Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 could be Skipped this Year, but Xiaomi remains committed to Large Foldables

Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi Mix Flip last year, marking its inaugural entry into the flip-style foldable smartphone market. Following its positive reception among consumers, the company is said to be preparing for the release of the Mix Flip 2. Nevertheless, there are indications that Xiaomi will forgo the Mix Fold 5 this year. Despite this omission, the brand is expected to continue its focus on the development of larger foldable devices.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 Launch Skipped this Year?

In January, the tipster known as Digital Chat Station disclosed the names of the forthcoming foldable smartphones from Chinese manufacturers for this year. The list comprises the Oppo Find N5, Honor Magic V4, Vivo X Fold 4, and Huawei Mate X7. Notably, Digital Chat Station (DCS) did not include the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 in this announcement.

The aforementioned Weibo post has sparked speculation regarding Xiaomi’s potential discontinuation of book-style foldable devices. However, as indicated by another Chinese tech blogger, Xiaomi has not ceased its research and development efforts for large foldable devices. This suggests that although the company may not release such products this year, it could potentially resume launching large foldables in 2026.

He noted that the extensive range of foldable products this year has involved certain compromises regarding specifications: the “all-rounder large foldable” has nearly vanished, while models that prioritize “lightweight” and “crease optimization” are increasingly prevalent. In this context, the phrase “all-rounder large foldable” probably denotes a premium foldable smartphone that performs exceptionally across all critical dimensions, such as performance, camera capabilities, battery longevity, durability, and display excellence, without sacrificing any of these features.

Speculations are suggesting that Vivo may forgo the release of the Vivo X Fold 4 Pro, opting instead to introduce only the X Fold 4, in contrast to the dual foldable phone launch of the previous year. For context, last year, the company presented the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro, which were equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 chipsets, respectively.
