Xiaomi’s Latest Smart Glasses Bring Better Calling and Lighter Design

Xiaomi has officially launched its Mijia Smart Audio Glasses 2, now available on the Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding platform. The crowdfunding campaign is set to begin on March 26 at 10 AM, with a special price of 999 Yuan (~$140). This launch comes after news surfaced about Xiaomi working on AI-powered smart glasses aimed at competing with products like the collaboration between Meta and Ray-Ban.

Design and Build Quality

The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses 2 builds on last year’s version with a sleeker design and lighter build. The temple arms are now just 5mm at their thinnest point, making them 26% slimmer than the previous model in that area and 30% thinner at the widest part. Weighing in at 27.6g, these glasses offer better weight distribution, which helps alleviate pressure on the wearer’s nose.

Featuring a “piano steel ultra-flexible hinge” that has been tested for over 15,000 bends, these glasses are built to last. The updated quick-release mechanism boasts a hinge design that is 70% smaller, making it easy to swap lenses with just one hand. Available frame styles include metal aviator, hybrid browline, classic Boston, hybrid aviator, and deep-space titanium.

Smart Audio and Call Features

The audio quality has been improved by refining the acoustic design and optimizing the acoustic structure for increased volume and better noise cancellation. A four-microphone setup with built-in algorithms to boost call clarity. A privacy feature works with inverse sound waves and anti-leakage membranes to minimize audio leakage, which can be activated through the Mijia Glasses app.

To start voice recording, simply press and hold the temple. An indicator light on the frame illuminates when recording is in progress, ensuring privacy is maintained. These glasses also provide IP54-rated dust and water resistance, integration with voice assistants, and the ability for real-time audio broadcasts.

Battery and Charging

The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses 2 offer an impressive 12 hours of music playback, 9 hours of talk time, and a standby duration of up to 12 days. They feature 2C magnetic charging, allowing for a complete charge in roughly one hour, and just a 10-minute charge can give you four hours of listening enjoyment.

It remains unclear if these glasses will be available in the international market.
